Xara announces that they let open (under the GPL) the source code of their successful vector graphics application: XaraXtreme. Xara also releases Xara LX 0.3, the development build for Linux. This build is said to be more functional and stable than the earlier versions. The announcement and the release are timed to coincide with the Libre Graphics Meeting currently being held in Lyon, France.
This announcement is in line up with their initial announcement on 11 October 2005 to port XaraXtreme to Linux and Mac and make it open-source. One of the reasons of Xara becoming open-source is to effectively compete with the giants (Microsoft and Adobe). This decision and the ongoing progress of Xara LX will give much pleasure to many die-heart fans of Xara.
(Some even say that they are still on Windows just because there is no such graphics application like Xara on Linux.)
